A small town boy with big ambitions

dsc_1054.jpgElias Baker was born just outside Danbury, CT on the 24th of April 1999. As a young child Elias was always interested in the inner workings of how things operated and functioned.

Creative prospects from a young age

From the age of 15, he knew he wanted to go into construction/building, with a possible side-area of architecture; mainly through influence of his father who was an architect himself with his own company for which Elias now works for.

As of Summer 2017, Elias started studying at Central Connecticut State University as a mechanical engineer, with the hope of making his dream come true.
Elias was lucky to travel during his childhood, with him and his father often visiting local engineering hotspots. One personal highlight of his was visit the Hoover Dam in Las Vegas in 2015. He said this really inspired him as it showed him what was possible both physically and mentally.

At high school, Elias stunned his teachers with his academic success putting him in the top 1% in the state with aa 4.2 weighted GPA across all his subjects. Elias hopes to continue this success into his college life.

Elias also had ideas of becoming a sports trainer, minoring in nursing.

In spending much of his childhood also playing many sports, he took a lot of interest in the physical side of sports. Elias played Baseball and Wrestling as a teenager, placing 7th in Massachusetts finals in 2018. Taking part in his wrestling career and the interest in physiology gave him the opportunity to be a medic for his local wrestling club, overshadowing their trainer. This inspired him to potentially pursue physiotherapy at College, or minoring in it alongside his engineering.

His desire for building and creating is also apparent in his private time too. He spends a lot of time building lego and used lego as a demonstration for his Spring midterms in 2018, getting an A.

Putting to use CCSU’s Engineering expertise

Elias chose Central Connecticut State because of their large engineering department. Elias also realised that due to CCSU’s integral engineering department, he can pick and choose modules from all engineering subsidiaries that take his liking.

He also liked Central Connecticuts’ smaller campus size compared to all other colleges he visited.

Elias also made friends with similar aspirations. He met James at high school, both with equal desire to be engineers in the future and then going on to study at CCSU together. They set up a model making business in early September 2016 in the attempt to gain experience in producing and manufacturing figures themselves. “The act of getting hands on with whatever you’re learning is far greater than reading about it, or listening”.

A desire to succeed

quote 1Elias has alway driven to do his best. He says, “this is what makes me a competitive sportsman, and a successful one at that. I have a goal, and I do whatever I can to get there”.

Elias since joining Central Connecticut State has gone onto join the Rugby team and various other clubs such as the chess club and the democratic club, helping him be hands on and active both personally, and in his community.
